New South Wales

Most Australians are well aware of Sydney and the Harbour or the surfing beaches of the northern regions like Byron Bay with most tourist travelling the coastal regions but NSW has some very diversified agricultural regions, various mining areas, western desert areas and many coastal and inland river systems.

Sydney is our largest Australian city and with that respect alone it has many tourist attractions with the main one being the harbour and surrounding areas. You do not have to travel far to the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley or Illawarra regions to experience mountain ranges, wine regions, surfing and fishing beaches, various agricultural areas and copious historical sites.

NSW has an enormous variety of river systems from the larger coastal rivers of the Tweed River in the north to the Shoalhaven in the south as well as many inland rivers with the most well known of the Murray, Darling, Snowy, Murrumbidgee and Macquarie rivers. All these rivers support a huge amount of tourism, agriculture and  history.

When you travel central NSW it is wise to keep an eye on the long term weather as we have travelled the Newell Highway and seen sheep walking through paddocks void of grass with plumes of dust behind them and only a year later the same area we had to drive through flood water.

As we lived and travelled around NSW we realised how diversified the state is so it depends on what your interests are as to what area you wish to explore. From the lush coastal and agricultural northern rivers to the dryer central wheat, sheep and cotton growing areas, the arid Lightning Ridge, Bourke or Broken Hill areas, the Snowy Mountains and Mt Kosciuszko National Park, the southern Illawarra to Bermagui and Eden, the Hunter Valley wine and agricultural region and don’t miss the amazing Riverina fruit bowl and wine area – surely there is an area to explore.
